RTX Spark is Nvidia’s take on the Apple Silicon playbook. Same SoC design pattern — Arm CPU cores, integrated GPU, unified memory, fast on-chip interconnects — but with Nvidia’s own Blackwell GPU under the hood instead of Apple’s silicon. Twenty CPU cores. Over 6,000 CUDA cores. Up to 128GB of LPDDR5X memory. Gaming performance comparable to a mobile RTX 5070 in a laptop as thin as 14 millimeters. Nvidia claims all-day battery life.

If you’ve been watching the silicon industry, this was inevitable. Apple proved the formula works. Nvidia, now a $5 trillion company, has the money and the leverage to make it work on Windows too — something their last ARM-on-Windows attempt 13 years ago couldn’t pull off. The difference this time: Apple spent close to a decade proving ARM laptops aren’t a compromise, and Windows on ARM now has Prism for x86 emulation. There’s still overhead, but it’s not the dealbreaker it used to be.

But the spec that actually matters has nothing to do with gaming.

It’s local AI. Real local AI. The RTX Spark can run a 120-billion-parameter model on-device. Multiple smaller models. A million tokens of context. On your laptop. No cloud connection. No subscription. No one reading your prompts.

I know people who won’t touch ChatGPT. Developers, startup founders, privacy-conscious engineers. Not because they don’t understand the technology — because they understand it too well. They paste code into a chat window and wonder where it ends up. Whose training set it feeds. Whether it’s ever actually deleted.

Their concerns aren’t abstract. A founder worried about proprietary code leaking through a data breach. Someone whose employer has strict data residency requirements. An engineer who keeps getting targeted ads that feel one prompt away from mind-reading. These are normal people in 2026, and the cloud AI architecture has no good answer for them.

What Nvidia built here is the hardware answer.

The chip follows Apple’s SoC blueprint but it’s not a clone — Blackwell GPU, different interconnect, and Nvidia’s own driver stack. Nvidia is working with Microsoft on Windows primitives for identity, containment, and end-to-end security. They’re releasing OpenShell, which lets users define what agents can and can’t do, route queries locally or to the cloud based on privacy policy, and disguise personal information in queries that do leave the device. Third parties — Hermes Agent, OpenClaw — are building on top of it. Apple controls the whole stack. Nvidia is building a platform.

The uncomfortable part is price. Nobody’s talking about it. The DGX Spark, which shares the same hardware lineage, is expensive and recently got more expensive. If RTX Spark laptops land at premium pricing, local AI becomes a luxury good. That undercuts the whole argument. Privacy shouldn’t cost extra.

Still. For the first time, someone built hardware that makes local AI not just possible, but fast. Not a toy model. The kind of model people actually want to use. In a laptop you can carry around.

My friend who won’t touch ChatGPT? He’s been waiting for this. A lot of people have.
